Im having a problem in the studio with my floor tom. I sometimes use a 16 in and or a 14 in and the problem occurs with both. The problem is every time i kick the kick drum it causes a ring on the floor tom and the mic picks it up. I have tried every thing from using a noise gate to putting small dish rags on it but nothing works. The noise gate will not cut it out enough and the dish rag takes away from the great big warm sound.
any ideas?
Thank you.

One of the reasons live drums sound better than say midi is because the toms do ring. Of course it has to be within reason but a bit of ring is ok. Maybe you could try messing with the bass drum if you like the floor tom because the note the bd is putting out is causing the tom to vibrate - so if you change that up or down, maybe the floor tom will stop ringing
