i've been playin in a 18 piece jazz band for about one and a half year now, we're startin to gettin into some pretty advanced songs and theres one called ''cute'' its a drum feature. that means i hvae a solo pretty much all the way trhough the song..i hvae no problem with that execpt that triplets are a nightmare to me. even though i play them in time they just seem messed up and it just fustrades me...

grr...do anyone know any exercises or or things i can try to make my time or feel better when doin triplets...

thanks Mikkel

Hey Mikkel,
Well what you could do is a few things.
1. Firstly, when you practise triplets, practise them to a metronome so you have a solid pulse behind you, so that you will know when you start to go in and out of time.

2. Practise just straight triplets accenting the 1st beat of each triplet, so you also create a steady pulse with them. Start slowly at 80BPM then work your way up to say, 160BPM. Do this for say 5 mins, then break , then 10, then 20, then 30. Eventually you'll be playing quite "cutely" in your sleep. ;)

3. Try playing them with accents in different positions, but have say your left foot on the high hat keeping the pulse going, so there is a steady beat, but your hands have some "room to move".
Good luck man, I hope you get something out of this. Drum on!

I think a good idea is to play a bar of 16th notes and then a bar of 8th note triplets - Repeat for a while and use a metronome.
1.alternating hands [r and l hand lead]
2.double strokes [r and l hand lead]
3.parraddiddles
That way you will get to feel the difference between to two feels. Relax and make it swing
